On September 16, Federico Núñez performed Carlos Guastavino’s Jeromita Linares in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was accompanied by the chamber orchestra of the National University of the Arts.
On September 21 and 22, the children’s choir of the José María Rodríguez Arts School and the Symphonic Orchestra of Cuenca, Ecuador, performed a children’s opera, El Quinde, el fuego y el Gigante, in that city’s Pumapungo Museum, the music for which was composed by Jorge Oviedo. Last Friday and Saturday, a ten instrument work by Rodrigo Herrera, Tramoturbio, was performed by the Chamber Orchestra of Valdivia in Chile.
On September 30, Kent Holliday’s two studies for the left hand were performed by pianist Nicholas Ross at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
Conducted by Valmore Nieves, the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra performed Luis Ernesto Gómez’sDialéctica de lo Incierto on October 5 in Caracas.
Finally, Alexandre Travassos also told us that his Metropolitan Overture (in preparation) will be performed by two Spanish concert bands on October 28, by Valencia’s Municipal Band and the Musikene Symphonic Band under the direction of Rafael Sanz-Espert, and in Catarroja by the Unió Musical under the direction of Natalia Montañés.
