Alvaro Zúñiga Roncal

Born in Lima in 1978, Peruvian composer Alvaro Zúñiga Roncal began studying composition with Walter Casas in 1996. He subsequently entered the National Conservatory of Music where he studied with Enrique Iturriaga and José Sosaya. In 2007 he participated in the Brasilia School of Music’s 29th International Summer Classes, where he studied film and television music with Eugenio Matos. Currently, he teaches music theory at the National Conservatory and at the Orson Welles Institute in Lima.
Zúñiga has composed for a variety of instrumental and vocal combinations, such as “Introverso,” which was premiered by Belgium’s Thelema Trio, “Enjambre,” “Canción para que se vaya tu sombra,” “Y no hallé en qué poner los ojos,” among others. His chamber opera, “Sacrificio, el último salto de Nijinksy,” was recently performed in Virginia by the Cayambis Sinfonietta.
His most recent composition, a sextet entitled “In-Móvil,” is scheduled to be premiered by Germany’s One Earth Orchestra.
