Maurita Murphy Marx

Maurita Marx One of the leading clarinetists in the world, Maurita’s performances included invitations from the internationally renowned Cleveland Quartet, the International Clarinet Association, ClarFest Inc. and the National Symposium of Brazil. As a “master teacher” and recipient of the Collegiate Teaching Award, her students have won first prizes in several international clarinet competitions. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Michigan State University, Dr. Marx had been on the music faculty at the University of Iowa since 1983.
For the past eighteen years, Maurita has been specializing passionately in Brazilian “choro” music; in fact, her CDs of this music have received high critical acclaim around the world. Most recently, Dr. Marx has been invited to perform a Brazilian “choro” recital at the International Clarinet Association conference in Madrid, Spain, and will be joined by Spanish guitarist Pablo Romero Luis.
