Summary Extended Description Audio Sample   CMP 1294 Duo for flute and harp. Grade 5+. Approx. duration: 12 minutes. Set includes a performance score, a transcribed score for piano and one part. In seven movements, this 1987 work is based on the musical material of the most important ethnic groups in Venezuela. This material is presented as textual citations of transcriptions realized by the musicologists Isabel Aretz and Luis Felipe Ramón y Rivera. Upon decontextualizing the material and contrasting it with diverse rhythmic, timbric and harmonic procedures, there arises a new music under which lies, pristine, the spirit of this ancestral music. The order of the movements reflects to a certain extent the cycle of life, in which love, sickness, death and diversion constitute fundamental aspects. The work was premiered in 1987, and has been recorded and performed many times in Venezuela, Mexico and the United States by accomplished musicians.
