A light tune, taken from the zarzuela, “Leonor‘s birthday party” by 19th century Venezuelan composer José Angel Montero, is the starting point of this brief work that exploits the agility, versatility and penetrating sound of the piccolo clarinet, an instrument that outside of the concert band, does not have much soloistic repertoire.
Writing in the June 2018 issue of “The Clarinet,” Kristine Dizon says that this work is “a fantastic addition to the unaccompanied E-flat clarinet repertoire,” and that she “highly recommends this work for advanced high school students to professionals.”
