“Twelve Children’s Scenes” is inspired in the tradition of piano books for students, like Schumann’s “Album for the Young,” or Debussy’s “Children’s Corner.” The work uses a lullaby as cyclic leitmotif to present a series of episodes in the day-to-day of life of Miranda, the composer’s granddaughter. The subject undergoes numerous variations throughout the work and each of its appearances represents a different situation or mood.
