This is the first of a series of works under the same title that are nevertheless distinguished by the use of varying ensemble sizes. This piece, for solo flute, is characterized by a unique theme, the two parts of which differ greatly one from the other. At the beginning, as well as at the end, slow moving yet mysterious elements predominate. The middle section consists of a delirious march.
