Summary Extended Description   CMP 1433 Oboe with piano accompaniment. Grade 4. Approx. duration: seven and a half minutes. Set includes a piano score and one part. Written in celebration of the first generation of graduates of Guayaquil’s University of the Arts, this composition continues the festive character that characterizes Pérez Valero’s first Little Tropical Suite (for English horn and piano). In this occasion the composer creates a work of three contrasting movements that begins with a light and gracious rhumba. Though the second movement is a bolero, it is not written in the conventional manner; rather, it is a slow and lyrical movement with a complex harmonic treatment and a dynamic rhythmic flow in the oboe. The last movement is a dance in which the composer incorporates, in a varied manner, elements of the Spanish fandango, the Argentine malambo and Venezuelan dances, which makes this movement the most rhythmically and harmonically complex. This work is an excellent choice for inclusion on a program of Latin American music by the way in which it reveals a syncretic mixture of popular and classical musical styles.
