Rodrigo Herrera

Rodrigo Herrera (Santiago, Chile, 1981) studied music composition at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile from 2001 to 2004 with Alejandro Guarello, Rafael Díaz and Pablo Aranda. In 2015, he was awarded a scholarship to study composition with Silvina Milstein at the King’s College in London. He also received lessons in orchestral conducting with Helmut Rilling, where he received a Masters degree in Music Composition at King’s College London with composer Silvina Milstein. He also received orchestral conducting lessons with German conductor Helmut Rilling, Hungarian conductor Zsolt Nagy, and Argentines conductors Santiago Santero and Luis Gorelik.
Herrera’s music has been performed in Chile, Spain, England and Germany by music various ensembles, such as the Chamber Orchestra of Chile, the Symphonic Orchestra of Chile, the Symphony Orchestra of Concepcion (Chile), Concerto Vocale, the Lontano Ensemble of London, and the Latin Strings Quartet of Germany, among others. A number of these have received awards and recognition, such as “Qulquimpu,” which was the winning composition in the Coquimbo Chile Hymn Competition (2014) and “Fantasía Angol,” which was the first prize winner of the third Marga Marga Orchestra Composition Competition in 2016.
